   《always open halfway through》出于波兰女诗人Wislawa Szymborska 的名诗《love at first sight》最后一句,Gordon Snelgrove 美术馆馆长Marcus 建议我用这句话,来总结我在加拿大的创作。这句用在诗的结尾的文字,有些暧昧与玩味,即断未断的,引申了前情,又投射出未来。

    《一见钟情》是波兰女诗人辛波丝卡的一首成名诗,她描述了人生的各种可能性与命运。这首诗最让我感兴趣的,是当我一遍一遍读它的时候,脑海里生成了一层一层的空间与连线,许多个画面互为交错或错过。那种看似无逻辑的空间,以及多维的碰撞,细致到某一个人与另一个人的相遇,感觉非常奇妙。人总是冥冥之中感受到某些事或空间之间有某些联系,似梦似真实,却因为模糊的边界与定义,而会被忘记。但我们的世界 ,以及我们人与人之间的联系与情感维系,其实就是在这样模糊的边界与空间之间交织形成的。这首诗里频频出现的空间与时间的错落,让我感觉到命运的定义,其实就是各种时间与空间的结点,理性与感性的结点,逻辑与错乱的结点。

这种种的结点都是运行在大量的事物运行轨迹之上的,这些错过与停留,正是我现在想要表达的奇妙的人生的“痕迹”感。因此我想运用这首诗给我的启示,来做一件公共艺术作品。

       由于《一见钟情》这首诗是波兰诗人的作品,而这首诗的原文是以波兰语来描写,最终被翻译成各种不同的语言来出版的,所以在很多的语言文字表达上,每一个人每一种语言的解读上,都会有细微的变化。人作为个体而言,自身也会存在着不同的情感发散与自我描述能力,因此每一个人在读这首诗的时候,都会有略微差别。最重要的是,可能不是所有人都会有一见钟情的经历,或事件双方都有这样的经历,但一见钟情这件事情本身,也许会带给很多人浪漫的触动,因为这种情感,就是未被安排没有预期时候迸发出来的强烈身心感触,强烈愉悦,所有人都几乎会有共情的感觉。那么文字本身其实是出离的,而感情本身是会焕发更多枝丫,心绪跳跃。

       加拿大是一个年轻的国家,这里的公民来自全世界各地不同的国家,人们的迁徒之路,命运的轨迹都是非常长而复杂的。遥远的距离,多元的生活轨道 ,却让大家走到了这里,虽然不是终点,但有着切乎寻常的共建家园的诉求。这也是我将在展览上,想要用这样的方式来创作一件社会交流作品的动机。让我们在这里的人,再次用母国的语言,去思考一种情绪,让我们思维的空间重叠。

       因此在这里,我想要组织一场公共艺术作品,有一部分是我自行完成,其中的一部分,就是组织加拿大来自不同国家的朋友,在英文版本上,用自己国家的语言,来翻译自己的《一见钟情》,而后大家的翻译作品,我将其布置在展览里,使其成为一件大家共同完成的公共艺术作品。同时,我也希望能将人们联系到一起,用自身的不同的“痕迹”认真地读一首诗,多一些思考,用一些时间 ,来想一件事,做一件事。

       然后由这件作品,默默地由于我在加拿大的生活的时间轴线被拉得越长,我关注到的来自人文,自然,气候中的细微变化也越来越多,也就形成了最后的个展。由时间这条经线,穿插着不同的活动与对话,形成了大大小小的视听触味的感受。这些感受由地域这个由自然、人类社会形成的强大的场域磁场,被发散,被释放,最后收于一隅。  

"always open halfway through" is the last sentence of the famous poet "love at first sight" by Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska. Marcus, director of the Gordon Snelgrove Art Museum, suggested that I use this sentence to summarize my creation in Canada. This sentence used at the end of the poem is somewhat embarrassing and playful, that is, it is unbroken, and it extends the former feelings and projects the future.

 

“Love at First Sight” is a famous poem by the Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska. The poem plays with the concepts of destiny and serendipity. 

 

The poem left an impression on me and I was drawn to read it over and over again, reflecting on the depth and layers of meaning. Life is not always logical, sometimes there is an underlying mystery to the series of random events that make up human existence. Our seemingly logical lives are composed of chain of events that are multidimensional and at times, unanticipated. 

 

The seemingly random encounter(s) between two individuals can go unnoticed but can also become a sublime experience arousing feeling of curiosity, uncertainty, providence, and destiny. In this so called ambiguous (synonym for fuzzy) space between the mystical  and the concrete , glimpses of possibility and life expression manifest themselves. In this poem, Szymborska beautifully conveys the mysterious interconnection between time and space, susceptibility (synonym for sensibility) and reason, the predestined and coincidental  and this literary work beautifully describes what most of us like to call “fate”.

 

I would like to use this beautiful and meaningful poem as the foundation for an interactive public art work. The original text of “Love at First Sight” is in Polish and the poem has already undergone translations into many different languages. I would like to connect with first, second, and third generation Canadians as well as indigenous populations with the intent and hope that these individuals would translate the poem into their native language from English . 

 

Not everyone has experienced love at first sight, but that is not the point, we have all experienced love. I expect to see variation in the translations since individuals have slightly varied emotional landscapes, experiences, backgrounds, identities, and world views. Furthermore, I would like to allow individuals creative freedom and encourage self-expression on the visual execution of the translations. Individuals will have the freedom to handwrite the translations on a medium of their choice not limited in shape and size. 

 

The translations will be displayed as part of the “Trace "exhibition at Snelgrove Gallery at the University of Saskatchewan in December, 2018. 

 

I chose Canada as a symbolic undertone for this project due to its unique multicultural makeup and identity. Canada is a relatively young country and one made up of human migration transcending generations, cultures, national identities, and borders. Individuals from all walks of life either chose Canada or ended up in Canada by chance. (They perhaps fell in love, made new friends, adopted a family, worked the land, made a discovery, and most importantly forged a new identity.)*

 

Through the Exhibition, it is my goal to connect people. I want to encourage people to come and view the “Love at First Sight” manuscripts and reflect on the thoughts and feelings generated by the different interpretations of the poem (both in terms of content and the visual)*.

 

Then by this work, the longer the time axis of my life in Canada is drawn, the more subtle changes I have come from in humanities, nature, and climate, the final solo. From the time of this warp, interspersed with different activities and dialogues, forming a feeling of big and small audio-visual touch. These feelings are dissipated by the powerful field magnetic field formed by nature and human society and are released and finally closed.
